No Need For Glory

I have had a lot of time to think over the last 23 months. It has only been recently that I have had clarity of thought concerning things that have taken place and I have become ready to move forward into whatever God has for me.

There is a lot more than limelight surrounding your walk with God. I think people get zealous and want to do all they can when their lives turn around. They want to show Jesus just how wonderful salvation is and how much they appreciate it.

I TOTALLY get that.

I also know that not everyone is called to be on the so-called “center stage.” Some of us are called to be in the background.

But, we are all called. Jesus was very clear in Matthew 28:19 - Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

We are called to go!

We are called to teach others about this beautiful life.

We care called to teach them about salvation, about baptism according to Acts 2:38, which is the only recoded way anyone was baptized in the book of Acts. We are called to be the Book of Acts church.

But, we are also called to remember. Remember that without Him we are nothing and we were headed down a path of distruction.

I had a lady call me one day right before we were gearing up for a ladies meeting. Pastor had announced me and another sister were going to be organizing the meeting.

This person was upset because we always seemed to head stuff up and she didn’t understand why she or other ladies didn’t get the chance.

I told her I made myself available.

Then I told her it really didn’t matter to me what God had me do, even if it was cleaning toilets, I just wanted to be useful. And, I suggested some other areas there was a need. I told her we could use a ladies prayer meeting and maybe she could organize that.

Her response was, “Oh, I don’t want to organize anything,” basically going on to say she just wanted to be a part of the end result but didn’t want to work toward the end result.

I was flabbergasted.

And, as the conversation segwayed from that to inappropriate comments about ministry, I sense the true spirit behind the call and shut the conversation down.

There are so many things that go on in the Body of Christ that never get the spotlight. And, the spotlight is someplace I have never been comfortable. I will go where He sends me, but that doesn’t mean it is a comfortable place for me.

Galatians 6:4-10 was part of my reading today and it drew my mind to that long ago phone conversation.
4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

If you see something out of place in church, put it up.
If they need a volunteer, do it.
If you see a young mother struggling with her baby during service, step in.
If you meet someone at the grocery who looks lost, hurt, and alone, show them Jesus.

If there is a need somewhere, help to meet it.

This is your own burden to bear. Rejoice in your own walk as you do those little things. If He can’t trust you with the little things your walk will never move to the “big things,” and friend, those BIG THINGS may never be in the spotlight.

But you can’t be too BIG in your own vanity to think your not called for the small things, the ordinary things, the mundane things.

You are called for ALL things.
